Adam Rex (born May 16, 1973) is an American author and illustrator from Tucson, Arizona. He holds a BFA from the University of Arizona and began his career illustrating fantasy art, including work for Magic: The Gathering, Planescape, and Dungeons & Dragons. He entered children’s publishing with The Dirty Cowboy (2003) and released his first original books, Tree-Ring Circus and Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich, in 2006—the latter becoming a New York Times bestseller. His novel The True Meaning of Smekday was adapted by DreamWorks into the animated film Home (2015). Rex continues to write and illustrate children’s books and has received several awards, including the 2017 National Cartoonists Society Division Award for Book Illustration.
