Dave Arneson

Dave Arneson was an American game designer and the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons. His Blackmoor campaign introduced the core concepts of modern role-playing: player characters, open-ended adventures, and a referee guiding the story. Teaming up with Gary Gygax, Arneson helped turn these ideas into the first published RPG in 1974. Though his later career moved through various game projects and teaching, Arneson’s innovations shaped the foundation of all tabletop role-playing games. He passed away in 2009.
