James Mendez
James Mendez Hodes (he/him) is an ENnie Award–winning cultural consultant, writer, and game designer from New York, working in both analog and digital games. As a cultural consultant, he helps creatives portray human identities with accuracy and care, with work appearing in Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, the Jackbox Party Packs, and Frosthaven. As a writer and designer, he focuses on games about culture, religion, hip hop, and martial arts. His credits include Avatar Legends, Thousand Arrows, Scion, and others. He has won three Gold ENnies for Avatar Legends and Thousand-Year-Old Vampire, and two Silver ENnies for 7th Sea: Pirate Nations and Jiāngshī: Blood in the Banquet Hall. He holds degrees from Swarthmore College and St. John’s College.
